Our Team

The Rockford Regional Wildlife Coalition is a not-for-profit coalition operating solely by volunteers consisting of state and federally licensed rehabilitators all focusing on conservation, public education and wildlife rehabilitation in the Rockford community; Leaving no animal behind.

Lisa Beardsworth, owner of Lisa's Little Rescue. I have been rehabbing in Winnebago County since 2018. I started with two squirrels that year. Each year I have added another species to rehabilitate. My specialty so far are squirrels, opossums, cottontails, 13 lined ground squirrels and woodchucks. Last year (2023), I rehabbed a total of 252 animals. It was challenging with so many different formulas and diets for multiple species but with the help of family and great volunteers we flourished. I also work at Midway Village part time as the Rentals Manager and I have a wonderful husband that helps and three amazing boys. I love helping people in the community with wildlife issues and even if I cannot physically take that particular animal, I hope to point people to someone who can. I'm looking forward to another great season.

Candy and Steve Ridlbauer (Northern Illinois Raptor Rehab & Education) have been rescuing and rehabilitating sick, injured, and orphaned birds of prey or raptors (hawks, owls, falcons, eagles, ospreys, and kites) for 27 years.

We also provide educational outreach "live" bird of prey programs for many different venues.

Our Mission

The mission of the Rockford Regional Wildlife Coalition is to provide humane and compassionate rehabilitation to orphaned, sick, injured and displaced native wildlife with the goal of returning them safely back to the wild per U.S. Fish & Wildlife Services and Illinois Department of Natural Resources guidelines. To provide the community with a valued awareness of wildlife, and assist and educate them through public outreach and education.  To empower the public by providing humane solutions for co-existence between humans and nature. To promote the conservation of wildlife and their habitat while helping train the next generation of wildlife rehabilitators.

Our Philosophy

The Rockford Regional Wildlife Coalition strives to encourage an alliance uniting licensed wildlife rehabbers, wildlife centers, rescue organizations and government agencies to provide solutions for wildlife and our citizens. We recognize that people and wildlife coexisting in our cities can often be a recipe for conflict.  Thus, it is essential that we develop successful strategies for urban wildlife conservation, that strengthen the virtuous cycle between biodiversity conservation and the people inhabiting cities, both for the sake of wildlife and humans. We aspire to share solutions for those conflicts by giving proper referrals when wildlife needs help, providing education about native animals and promoting coexistence in our neighborhoods. We listen compassionately and assist in problem-solving the wildlife concern or emergency being experienced. Every inquiry we receive is important to both the citizen and the wild animal involved. We are making a difference; leaving no animal behind.
